Google groups are used to grant access to files, invite people to meetings, and, of course, for email distribution.

Announcement lists

Announcement lists are for announcements only; anyone may join, but posting is limited.

• biocommons-announce Announcement list. Low-volume, read-only list primarily for announcements of new releases, meetings, and similar information.

Discussion lists

Discussion lists are for community discussion; anyone may join and post, but first posts are moderated to cut down spam.
